June Thomson in Holmes and Watson, on why the bullets were actually not enough to ‘put his (Moran’s) head in a noose’ as Holmes claimed they would be in The Adventure of the Empty House.
There is no such regiment as the First Bengalore Pioneers. Because of Colonel Moran’s subsequent criminal career, Watson has clearly changed the name in order not to bring shame on Moran’s former regiment.

June Thomson in Holmes and Watson. (This partly fits with my current theory (largely based on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) that Watson and Moran were in the same regiment and Watson tried to hide this later on.) |
